This research work is aimed at examining the positive
and negative influences of Facebook and other social network on educational
standard of students of Imo State University, Owerri. To accomplish this, the
study employed observation, surveys, and a research design that included the
use of questionnaires to collect data from 500 participants. Findings show that
majority of the respondents (students) have access to social media which is
capable of influencing their academic performance. The study therefore,
recommends that students should find out what exactly they want to do on social
media. It is very obvious that no social media is bad; it depends on how the
user accesses it either for chit chatting or knowledge seeking.
